What Is K-18 Treatment and Is It Worth Adding to Your Appointment?

K-18 is not just another treatment. It does something genuinely different.

If you have been in a salon in the last few years, you have heard about K-18. We use it at Fettle and Mane because the results are real. Here is what it actually does and who it is worth it for.

The Science Behind K-18

Hair damage at the chemical level happens in the cortex of the strand, where peptide chains and disulfide bonds give hair its structure, elasticity, and strength. K-18 uses a synthetic polypeptide designed to mimic the natural polypeptide chains in hair. It absorbs into the cortex and occupies the broken chain positions, effectively restoring the strand’s internal structure from the inside out. The treatment processes in four minutes and requires no heat.

What the Result Feels Like

Guests who have never used K-18 often describe the result as shocking. Hair that felt rough, stretched, or brittle before the treatment comes out feeling soft, smooth, and elastic in a way that conditioning alone cannot produce.

Who Benefits Most

Guests who have done significant bleaching or multiple rounds of color over time. Guests whose hair breaks or snaps easily. Guests with hair that has a stretched, gummy texture when wet. Read the specific signs that indicate over-processed hair For all of these, a K-18 treatment is worth the addition to the service.

K-18 at Fettle and Mane

We offer K-18 as a standalone add-on to any service. The treatment takes four minutes, processes without heat, and is applied after clarifying and before styling. At $65 added to an existing appointment, it is one of the most cost-effective improvements we offer in terms of the visible result. Not sure whether K-18 or Olaplex is the right call for your hair?
