Why We’re a Team-Based Salon and Why That’s Actually Better for You

The way a salon structures its compensation affects how every service is delivered. Here is why ours is different.

Most salons run on a commission model. Each stylist’s pay is tied directly to the revenue they generate individually. That structure creates incentives that are sometimes perfectly aligned with guest interests and sometimes not.

How a Commission Model Affects Service

In a pure commission environment, a stylist who recommends a shorter service is earning less than one who recommends a longer or more expensive one. A stylist whose book is not full has financial pressure that can subtly influence recommendations in ways they may not even recognize.

How Our Model Works

At Fettle and Mane, stylist compensation is structured to reward skill development, education completion, rebooking performance, retail percentage, and client retention alongside service revenue. A stylist who builds a loyal, returning book and retains guests over time is compensated better than one who books new guests constantly but does not retain them.

What This Means for You as a Guest

The recommendation you receive at your consultation is based on what your hair actually needs, not what generates the highest service ticket. If your goal requires two appointments rather than one, we will tell you that and explain why. Read about how our tiered pricing system reflects this same philosophy
