Cezanne vs. Keratin Treatment: What’s the Difference and Which Do You Need?

Both smooth the hair. They do it differently and produce different results.

Smoothing treatments are one of the most requested services we get from guests dealing with frizz, humidity sensitivity, or unmanageable texture. The two most common options are Cezanne and traditional keratin treatments.

What Cezanne Is

Cezanne is a formaldehyde-free smoothing treatment that reduces frizz, adds shine, and makes the hair significantly more manageable. It works by reorganizing the hydrogen bonds within the hair strand to reduce the hair’s tendency to absorb atmospheric moisture, which is the primary cause of humidity-related frizz.

The express version of Cezanne lasts six to eight weeks. The full Cezanne treatment lasts up to six months. Both are 100 percent formaldehyde-free, safe for color-treated hair. Read about what the Carolina humidity does to hair specifically and how Cezanne addresses it

What Traditional Keratin Treatments Are

Traditional keratin treatments use formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing ingredients to create a chemical bond between the treatment and the hair protein. They tend to produce a straighter, more dramatically smoothed result than Cezanne, but come with associated chemical exposure. Traditional keratin treatments are not available at Fettle and Mane.

What to Expect From Cezanne

Less frizz throughout the day, particularly in humid conditions. A noticeably smoother texture. Faster blowout time at home. More shine. For guests with naturally wavy or curly hair, Cezanne reduces the frizz component without dramatically altering the curl pattern.

Maintenance

Cezanne results are extended by using sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates break down the treatment faster. Read the full breakdown of why sulfate-free shampoo matters for treated hair
